Brazil nuts come from one of the tallest trees in the Amazon Rainforest. The trees grow up to 160 feet tall. The nut pods drop to the ground at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour, and are collected by hand by local harvesters in Brazil, Peru and Bolivia.

It’s not just about a nut – it’s about preserving a complete ecosystem that is threatened by illegal mining and deforestation.

Entire Indigenous communities living in remote areas of the Amazon forest depend on Brazil nuts for their livelihood.  Hand-harvesting these nuts creates a natural economic sustainability that helps both the forest and the local communities. The Brazil nut tree is inseparably linked to the forest in which it grows.  The trees depend on orchid bees for pollination.  The bees depend on the orchids to survive, and the orchids, in turn, depend on the trees to help create the pristine environment which they require to live.  Brazilian cashews are also hand-picked from the Rainforest.  The cashew is native to Brazil, in the area between the Atlantic Rainforest and the Amazon Rainforest.

For our Rainforest Butter, we dry-roast the shelled nuts and then blend them with coconut, making a butter that is high in iron, selenium, fibre, essential fats and protein.  Brazil nuts, cashews and coconut are non-GMO and gluten free.
